Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has joined countless fans and colleagues in mourning the loss of legendary actor Govardhan Asrani, who passed away on October 20 at the age of 84 after battling a prolonged illness. The veteran performer, known fondly as Asrani Ji, left behind a rich legacy that defined Indian comedy for decades.

In a heartfelt post shared on social media, Aamir Khan Productions paid tribute to the late actor, writing,

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of the legendary Asrani. A true icon whose wit, warmth, and unforgettable performances lit up generations of cinema lovers. His legacy lives on in every laugh he sparked and every heart he touched. A timeless artist, remembered always.”

Asrani, who had been admitted to Bharatiya Arogya Nidhi Hospital in Juhu four days prior to his demise, succumbed to complications arising from fluid accumulation in his lungs. The beloved actor’s passing has left an irreplaceable void in Indian cinema. Having entertained audiences for over five decades, Asrani was celebrated for his impeccable comic timing and memorable roles in classics like Sholay, Chupke Chupke, Aaj Ki Taaza Khabar, and Hera Pheri.

Actor Akshay Kumar, who shared screen space with Asrani in several hit comedies, also expressed deep sorrow, writing on X (formerly Twitter):

“Speechless with grief at the passing of Asrani ji. We had just shared the warmest hug last week during the shoot of Haiwaan. Such a kind soul and a legend of comic timing. From Hera Pheri to Bhagam Bhag, De Dana Dan, Welcome, and our upcoming Bhooth Bangla and Haiwaan—I’ve learned so much from him. What a tremendous loss to our industry. Om Shanti.”

“From Bhool Bhulaiyaa and Dhol to our last film Bhoot Bangla, your magic made every scene unforgettable. You will always be missed, Asrani Ji.”

Asrani was last seen in ‘Non Stop Dhamaal’ and ‘Dream Girl 2’, both released in 2023. Fans will see him one final time in Priyadarshan’s upcoming films ‘Bhooth Bangla’ and ‘Haiwaan’, which will be released posthumously.

With his passing, Indian cinema bids farewell to a legend whose laughter and charm will echo through generations. Asrani’s body of work remains a masterclass in versatility — a reminder that true artistry never fades.
