The much-awaited historical drama Lahore 1947, produced by Aamir Khan and directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, may reportedly hit theatres with a new title. While the film has been in the making for years, the possibility of a title change has stirred strong reactions — especially from the filmmaker himself.
Aamir Khan had earlier mentioned that Lahore 1947 would release after Sitaare Zameen Par, but since that project has already wrapped up, attention has now shifted to Santoshi’s period film. However, with current political sensitivities, some industry insiders suggest that a film named after a Pakistani city might not be ideal for release in the current climate.
When asked about the speculation, Rajkumar Santoshi candidly shared his stance. “You’ll have to ask my producer Aamir Khan about the release date of Lahore 1947. As far as changing the title goes, I am completely against it,” he said firmly. “Of course, the final decision rests with the producer, but I do not support this kind of appeasement. I’ve waited nearly two decades to bring this story to life — it’s my dream project.”

The director also praised his lead actor, Sunny Deol, describing him as the perfect fit for the role. “I was destined to make this film with Sunny. He has delivered a performance that blends the traditional and the modern beautifully. My previous films with him, Ghayal and Ghatak, became milestones in both our careers. I’m confident Lahore 1947 will have a similar impact.” – Aamir Khan Rajkumar Santoshi Lahore 1947 to Reportedly Get a New Title
Santoshi further expressed admiration for veteran actress Shabana Azmi, who plays a pivotal role in the film. “Working with Shabana for the first time was an incredible experience. She has been amazing audiences for over five decades, and yet she continues to surprise with every role. Her performance in Lahore 1947 is deeply moving — I doubt there will be a dry eye in the theatre. She’s not only the emotional core of the film but also a remarkable human being. I’m eager to collaborate with her again.”
With an ensemble cast, a powerful story set against the backdrop of partition, and creative forces like Aamir Khan, Rajkumar Santoshi, and Sunny Deol coming together, Lahore 1947 promises to be one of the most significant cinematic events of its time — whatever its final title may be.
