Ahmed Khan Describes Welcome To The Jungle as Dark Situational Humour
Choreographer-turned-filmmaker Ahmed Khan recently sat down for an exclusive conversation with Pinkvilla, offering fresh insights into the making of his star-studded entertainer Welcome To The Jungle. From managing one of Bollywood’s biggest ensemble casts to clarifying rumours around Sanjay Dutt’s exit, Khan opened up about the challenges and excitement surrounding the film, while also sharing updates on his upcoming project Baap.
Almost Done Filming
When asked how much of Welcome To The Jungle is still left to shoot, Khan revealed that the team is nearing completion.
“We’re right at the finishing line. By January, we should be done. The plan is to release the film by mid-next year,” he said.

Disha Patani’s Role Is More Than a Cameo
Addressing the viral behind-the-scenes photo of Akshay Kumar and Disha Patani, Khan confirmed that her involvement goes beyond a song.
“She’s very much a part of the film. Jacqueline, Lara, and Raveena are also in the cast. As for who’s opposite Akshay, you’ll have to wait and watch,” he teased.
‘Dark Situational Humour’, Not a Slapstick Comedy
Khan described the film’s tone as unconventional for a franchise known for laughs.
“It’s a black, dark situational humour. It isn’t a comedy in the usual sense. Firoz Nadiadwala doesn’t believe in making slapstick films—he prefers situational and dark humour,” he explained.
He added, “If you mute the film, it looks like an intense drama. Turn on the volume, and you’ll realise the characters are saying the most ridiculous things. The scale is massive, and there’s plenty of action.”

Is Comedy Risky Today?
Sharing his perspective on humour in a sensitive era, Khan said:
“Comedy has always pushed boundaries. Even Charlie Chaplin relied on hits, falls, and exaggeration. Real humour often comes from discomfort—pain makes people laugh more than perfection. The writing has to be sharp.”
Handling a Mega Ensemble Cast
Khan admitted that coordinating dates for a cast filled with well-known names was one of the biggest challenges.
“This is probably the only film with such a large ensemble of established actors. It took nearly a year and a half just to align schedules. But our rapport with everyone made it possible,” he said.
Despite the logistical hurdles, the atmosphere on set remained lively. “The real comedy happens off camera. We’re all friends, and the banter never stops.”

Update on Baap
Khan confirmed that his multi-starrer Baap is fully complete.
“Zee Studios will be deciding the release plan soon. It’s a big film, and even though the director is new, the project is ready.”
Dream Collab: Akshay, Sunny, Suniel & Sanjay
Speaking about the actors closest to him, Khan expressed his desire to unite Akshay Kumar, Sunny Deol, Suniel Shetty, and Sanjay Dutt in a high-octane action film someday.
“I’ve worked deeply with all four. Bringing them together in a rugged, testosterone-charged action movie would be incredible.”
Sanjay Dutt’s Exit Was Not About Creative Differences
Clearing the air around rumours, Khan clarified that Sanjay Dutt didn’t leave Welcome To The Jungle due to disagreements.
“That was very old news. His dates didn’t align, and he had to travel to the U.S. for treatment. Otherwise, he was always a part of the film.”
Is Awara Paagal Deewana 2 Happening?
Khan confirmed that the sequel is being considered.
“It’s in the pipeline. But right now, Welcome To The Jungle is a huge ship I’m steering. Once I’m done with this, I’ll jump into Awara Paagal Deewana 2.”
