Aryan Khan’s much-awaited directorial debut, The Bads of Bollywood, is now streaming on Netflix and has quickly become a major talking point among audiences. Marking a significant milestone in his creative journey, Aryan has now opened up about how his father, Shah Rukh Khan, played a defining role in shaping his perspective on cinema and storytelling.
“Ever since childhood, I’ve loved the art of storytelling,” Aryan shared. “There were always ideas in my head that I wanted to express differently. I realized early on that I had more control and creative satisfaction behind the camera. When you’re truly passionate about something, it stops feeling like work—it becomes your purpose.”
Aryan revealed that his fascination with filmmaking was sparked and nurtured by his superstar father. “My dad has always been deeply involved in every aspect of filmmaking—whether it’s visual effects, lighting, or camera work. When I was little, he would show me movie tricks like, ‘You don’t actually get shot—this is how it happens,’ or how you can make a plane appear to fly without it really taking off. That early exposure to cinematic craft laid the foundation for Aryan’s own artistic voice. His Netflix series The Bads of Bollywood refuses to be boxed into a single genre—it moves fluidly between drama, humor, and emotion. “The beauty of a long-format series is that you can experiment. You can start with comedy, move into tragedy, and then surprise the audience with a romantic twist,” Aryan explained. “We wanted the storytelling to evolve naturally—starting light and slowly deepening into something more emotional. Since it’s a show about the film industry itself, we felt free to play with tone and style.”
The seven-episode series features a stellar ensemble cast including Lakshya, Bobby Deol, Manoj Pahwa, and Raghav Juyal, along with cameo appearances by industry icons such as Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Emraan Hashmi, Karan Johar, SS Rajamouli, and Ranbir Kapoor.
