Veteran actress Jaya Bachchan recently stirred debate with her strong views on the paparazzi, leading to widespread reactions within the entertainment industry. Speaking at the We The Women Asia session with Barkha Dutt, Jaya Bachchan expressed displeasure over how paparazzi operate today, questioning their professionalism and the way they present themselves.

The actress remarked, “It’s strange. My relationship with the media is wonderful—I am a product of the media. My father was a journalist, so I have immense respect for true media professionals. But my relationship with the paparazzi is nonexistent. Who are these people? Are they trained to represent the citizens of this country? You call them media?”

She went on to criticize the behaviour and appearance of certain paparazzi members, saying that many simply carry mobile phones and feel entitled to capture images and comment however they wish, without understanding ethics, background, or responsibility. Her statements quickly went viral, prompting mixed responses from the film fraternity. – Ashutosh Rana Responds to Jaya Bachchan Remarks on Paparazzi

Among those reacting was actor Ashutosh Rana, who offered a more philosophical perspective while addressing the issue in a conversation with IANS. Rana emphasized that human reactions are often deeply rooted in emotions. According to him, every individual—regardless of their profession—possesses equal value, and emotional sensitivity can sometimes lead people to respond harshly, but it also enables compassion.

He explained, “I believe every person has his own value. We are emotional and sensitive beings. Because of emotions, we may sometimes end up attacking someone, but the same sensitivity helps us realise that God has created us just as He has created others.”

Actress Ameesha Patel also voiced her thoughts, standing in support of the paparazzi. She acknowledged their hard work and persistence, noting that they often function under tremendous pressure yet continue to carry out their responsibilities with dedication.

As the discussion grows, the debate around celebrity privacy, media ethics, and the role of modern paparazzi continues to intensify—highlighting a longstanding tension between public figures and those who document their lives.
