Emraan Hashmi is set to return as Shivam in the follow-up to Awarapan, a film that went on to earn cult status long after its 2007 theatrical run. Nearly 20 years later, the sequel is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on April 3, 2026.
The upcoming romantic drama features Disha Patani as the female lead, with Nitin Kakkar at the helm. As shooting progresses at a brisk pace, a picture allegedly from the sets of Awarapan 2 has taken social media by storm. The image shows Emraan Hashmi dressed in a rugged leather jacket paired with a black T-shirt and trousers, hinting at Shivam’s intense persona. Disha Patani, on the other hand, is seen in a simple printed ethnic outfit, suggesting a grounded and understated character. Although the makers have not officially confirmed the image, it has already fueled fan speculation.
Emraan Hashmi opens up about the sequel
Speaking to Zoom, Emraan Hashmi shared a brief update on the project without revealing key details. “The film has powerful music and some very intense scenes. Reflecting on the journey of bringing Shivam back, the actor added that discussions around a sequel began years ago. “Before COVID, the big question was how to justify Shivam’s return, given how the first film ended. In 2022, when my friend Bilal came up with the script, everything finally clicked. It stays true to the soul of Awarapan while taking the story forward,” he explained.
Hashmi also emphasized that Awarapan 2 is not a cash-grab. “This film exists because of the emotional bond fans have with Awarapan. Over the years, the love for it has only grown — some fans have even got tattoos inspired by the film. That kind of connection can’t be taken lightly.”
Earlier this year, on March 24, Emraan officially announced the sequel by dropping a teaser on social media. He captioned it, “Just keep me alive a little longer… #Awarapan2 in theatres, 3rd April 2026.”
