Ayushmann Khurrana Calls Thamma the Defining Film
Ayushmann Khurrana is riding high on the success of his Diwali release Thamma, which has opened to an overwhelming response from both critics and audiences. The actor, celebrated for his unconventional film choices such as Bala, Andhadhun, Article 15, and Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, has once again proved that taking creative risks pays off. The film recorded Ayushmann’s biggest-ever opening with a phenomenal ₹23 crore net collection at the Indian box office.
Expressing his gratitude, Ayushmann shared, “I’m an entertainer at heart, and it’s incredibly fulfilling to see people enjoy Thamma and my performance during the festive season. When my visionary producer Dinesh Vijan told me the film would release on Diwali, I was thrilled — it was something I’d always dreamed of in my career.” – Ayushmann Khurrana Calls Thamma the Defining Film

Reflecting on his journey, he added, “Thamma is the tentpole film of my career, and having it release during Diwali feels like destiny. Every year, I used to go to theatres with my family to watch a superstar’s Diwali release. This year, I went to watch my own film with them — and that’s a surreal moment.”
Calling the film’s success a validation from the audience, the actor continued, “This feels like recognition of the path I’ve taken in Hindi cinema. I’m thankful to Dinesh Vijan for trusting me to play a character as unique as an Indian ‘betaal’. Watching the audience enjoy this wild, theatrical experience and connect with my character has been truly special.” – Ayushmann Khurrana Calls Thamma the Defining Film
Ayushmann also highlighted the significance of Thamma’s performance amid changing box-office trends. “The film’s opening proves that audiences are ready to embrace original concepts and fresh storytelling, not just sequels or formula-driven big-star films,” he said.
Co-starring Rashmika Mandanna and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Thamma marks another successful addition to Dinesh Vijan’s horror-comedy universe and cements Ayushmann Khurrana’s reputation as one of India’s most daring and dependable entertainers.
