Deepika Padukone Face Cultural Clichés in Hollywood
Bollywood superstar Deepika Padukone recently shared her thoughts on the challenges she faced while working in Hollywood. Speaking at the CNBC TV Global Leadership Summit, the actress reflected on the “cultural clichés” and stereotypes she encountered in the West.
Deepika explained that she always wanted to represent India authentically, saying, “I was very clear about taking India to the world — but the India that I know. I never wanted to fit into what the global audience expected of us, even if it meant a slower journey.” – Deepika Padukone Face Cultural Clichés in Hollywood
She further revealed how the Western perception of India often clashed with reality, adding, “Every time I went to the West, I noticed their idea of India was so different. I’ve experienced those clichés — from casting and accents to even my skin color. That’s why I wanted to do things my way, on my terms.”
On the work front, Deepika Padukone is gearing up for her next big film “King” opposite Shah Rukh Khan. The movie, which also stars Abhishek Bachchan, Jaideep Ahlawat, Arshad Warsi, and Raghav Juyal, created a huge buzz when its title was unveiled on Shah Rukh Khan’s birthday.
