Dhurandhar Faces Fresh Controversy in Karachi Court

Ranveer Singh’s high-octane action film Dhurandhar has found itself at the centre of a legal storm across the border. The controversy surrounding the movie has now escalated, with a court in Karachi taking cognisance of a complaint challenging the film’s trailer and promotional content.

What triggered the legal action?
According to reports, a petition has been filed in the District and Sessions Court (South), Karachi, against director Aditya Dhar, the producer, and other key members associated with Dhurandhar. The complaint was submitted by Mohammad Amir, who identifies himself as a worker of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). He moved the court under Sections 22-A and 22-B of Pakistan’s Code of Criminal Procedure, seeking to name the film’s makers as accused in the case. – Dhurandhar Faces Fresh Controversy in Karachi Court

Allegations against the film
The petitioner has alleged that Dhurandhar’s trailer portrays the PPP as being sympathetic towards terrorist activities. He further claimed that the film inaccurately depicts Karachi’s Lyari area as a hub of terrorism, which he argues is misleading and defamatory. Another major objection raised is the alleged unauthorised use of the PPP flag and visuals of the party’s late leader in the film’s promotional material.

Mohammad Amir stated that he came across the trailer and related publicity content on social media on December 10 while at a café located within the jurisdiction of the Darakhshan police station.

Claims of misuse and defamation
The complaint also mentions the use of images of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, party flags, and scenes resembling political rallies without official permission. The petitioner maintains that linking the PPP to terrorism is baseless, fabricated, and aimed at maligning the party, its leadership, and its supporters. He further argued that showing Karachi—particularly Lyari—as a terrorist zone harms the country’s image and disrespects its citizens. – Dhurandhar Faces Fresh Controversy in Karachi Court

Police refusal and court intervention sought
Amir also claimed that he had earlier approached the Station House Officer (SHO) of the Darakhshan police station to register an FIR, but his request was allegedly declined. He said the situation caused him mental anguish and social embarrassment. As a result, he has now urged the court to direct the police to formally register a case and initiate legal proceedings in the matter.

The court’s next course of action is awaited as Dhurandhar continues to remain under scrutiny amid the growing controversy.
