Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh has come under fire from Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun’s organization, Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), following a viral moment on television where he was seen touching Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s feet. The separatist group has threatened to disrupt Dosanjh’s upcoming concert in Australia on November 1, accusing him of “betraying the memory” of victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
In a statement, Pannun lashed out at Dosanjh, claiming, “By bowing to Amitabh Bachchan—the man whose words, according to us, inflamed the 1984 genocide—Diljit has dishonoured every victim, widow, and orphan of that tragedy. This isn’t ignorance; it’s betrayal.” He further added that no Sikh with a conscience should perform or celebrate on November 1, which the group marks as a Day of Remembrance for the 1984 victims. – Diljit Dosanjh Threatened by Khalistani Group
The controversy erupted after Dosanjh appeared on the set of ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati 17’, where he respectfully touched Amitabh Bachchan’s feet upon greeting him. Bachchan affectionately referred to Dosanjh as “Punjab de puttar” (son of Punjab) and embraced him, drawing loud applause from the audience. The heartwarming gesture soon went viral on social media, with fans praising Dosanjh for his humility and respect toward the veteran actor.
However, SFJ’s reaction took a sharp turn. The banned outfit not only threatened to shut down Dosanjh’s Australia concert but also urged Jathedar Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, to summon the singer-actor and demand an explanation. The group cited a 2010 Akal Takht decree that designates November as “Sikh Genocide Month,” urging all Sikh institutions, artists, and audiences to boycott anyone “whitewashing or glorifying” figures allegedly linked to the 1984 violence. – Diljit Dosanjh Threatened by Khalistani Group
Meanwhile, Diljit Dosanjh continues his Aura Tour in Australia, setting new records along the way. His Sydney show recently made headlines after becoming the first-ever fully sold-out stadium concert by an Indian artist, with 30,000 fans in attendance and ticket prices soaring up to $800.
Despite the threats, Dosanjh has not issued an official statement on the matter. Fans and industry peers have largely come out in his support, emphasizing that the gesture was one of respect and cultural tradition rather than a political statement.
