Farhan Akhtar Admits Jee Le Zaraa Movie Delays Shook His Confidence
Filmmaker-actor Farhan Akhtar, who is currently promoting his film 120 Bahadur, has opened up about one of the most challenging phases of his professional life — the prolonged delay of his much-anticipated directorial project Jee Le Zaraa. Speaking on Unfiltered by Samdish, Farhan candidly reflected on how the continuous postponements left him anxious, creatively drained and uncertain about his abilities as a filmmaker.
A Return to Direction That Never Took Off
Announced in 2021 with a star-studded cast comprising Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Alia Bhatt, and Katrina Kaif, Jee Le Zaraa was meant to mark Farhan’s comeback to the director’s chair after more than a decade. But instead of unfolding as planned, the film suffered repeated setbacks, leaving him in a limbo.
Farhan recalled how the delay began consuming his time and confidence:
“After Toofan released in 2021, I was supposed to dive into directing Jee Le Zaraa. But the project just kept getting pushed. For nearly two years, I said no to every other offer because directing demands full focus. If someone approached me for acting, I declined saying, ‘I’ll soon be directing.’”
Despite his dedication, dates kept shifting, leaving him stuck in a cycle of waiting.
“The shoot date kept moving ahead again and again. It became extremely stressful. I felt like I was just sitting around, and suddenly two-and-a-half years had passed.”

Struggling Internally: “Maybe People Thought I Couldn’t Direct Anymore”
The never-ending uncertainty began impacting Farhan emotionally. He revealed that the stagnation triggered self-doubt, ultimately pushing him to seek therapy.
“There were personal insecurities involved. I started wondering if people felt I couldn’t direct anymore. It had been 12 years since my last directorial, and I feared they might be questioning my skills.”
Discussing therapy, he added:
“When you talk through these feelings with a therapist, you slowly understand where they’re coming from. Despite everything, I didn’t want to say, ‘Let me move on from this film.’”
Why Jee Le Zaraa Never Took Off
Since its announcement, the film has faced constant hurdles. Packed schedules of the leading actresses were repeatedly cited as the main reason for the delays. In 2023, writer Reema Kagti had suggested that the film would finally roll by the year’s end — a plan that ultimately fell through once again.
At present, Jee Le Zaraa remains stalled with no confirmed revival timeline.
Farhan Moves Forward With Don 3
While the much-awaited all-female road trip drama is still on hold, Farhan has now shifted his focus to his next directorial venture, Don 3, featuring Ranveer Singh in the lead. The filmmaker is preparing to return to the director’s chair with renewed clarity and confidence.
