From being branded ‘fake’, ‘an observer’, and someone who played from the back foot, to now being accused of being a ‘fixed winner’ due to his television popularity — the actor has faced his share of criticism throughout the season.

In an exclusive post-win interaction with India Today, Gaurav firmly dismissed every tag thrown his way, making it clear that such remarks hold no weight in front of his journey or achievement.

“Everyone on social media thinks they’re an expert”

Responding to allegations of his win being pre-planned, Gaurav said he sees no point in addressing baseless claims.

“These are just their allegations; why even entertain them? Today everyone on social media has become a keyboard warrior. If someone doesn’t like me, that’s okay. I’m not God’s special gift that everyone must like me. What matters is that most people do like me,” he stated.

“If I were fake, I would have played the typical reality-TV game”

The Bigg Boss 19 winner also countered the ‘fake’ label, stressing that his unfiltered personality is what connected with the audience.

“If I wanted to fake it, I’d wake up wearing designer clothes, full makeup, and cause unnecessary drama. I’d break plates, flaunt outfits, create chaos. But that’s not me,” Gaurav said.

He added that his simplicity — working out in slippers, eating with his hands, kneading dough in the kitchen — was not strategy but who he truly is.

“I didn’t pay anyone to vote for me — I don’t have that kind of money”

Shutting down accusations of buying votes, Gaurav clarified:

“My routine was fixed — waking up before the alarm, drinking green tea in my glass. I live this way outside the house too. I’ve never had that kind of money to pay people for votes. People voted because I touched their hearts.”

When asked if he ever had a moment when he knew he would win the trophy, Gaurav responded that he gives his best in every project and Bigg Boss was no different.

“Everyone comes to win. Saying I didn’t want to win would be disrespectful. But for me, this show is a marathon, not a 100-meter sprint. You don’t need to scream or abuse from day one. You run at your own pace, and that’s exactly what I did.”

Despite being criticized for being “just an observer,” Gaurav believes his calm, steady strategy is precisely what earned him the title.

Reflecting on his career, Gaurav said facing doubt is nothing new for him.

“When I left Kanpur, people asked what I would even achieve. When I entered television, they said I wasn’t an actor. When I did reality shows, they said popularity won’t help. But I kept moving forward — and ended up winning Celebrity MasterChef India. The same happened in Bigg Boss. I’m used to people doubting me, and I’ve learned to rise above it.”
