Gouri Kishan Opens Up on Body-Shaming Incident
Tamil actor Gouri Kishan has broken her silence after a recent body-shaming incident during the press conference of her film Others. The actor called out the reporter’s inappropriate question about her weight, terming it “harassment and bullying”, in an exclusive conversation with India Today.
What was meant to be a routine media interaction soon turned distressing for Gouri when a journalist asked her an offensive question targeting her physical appearance instead of discussing her performance or character in the film.
“That was harassment and bullying. The silence in the hall was appalling,” Gouri recalled, adding that she felt completely isolated at that moment.

The actor described feeling helpless as she looked around the room for support.
“I was uncomfortable at that question. I was looking at the whole room helplessly. Everyone was silencing me,” she said.
Gouri also pointed out that the reporter did not ask even a single question about her craft.
“He didn’t ask one question about my character or my role,” she emphasized.
While acknowledging that her film’s director and team did not intervene, Gouri expressed understanding rather than resentment.
“My director could have shut it down in one line. That’s okay. My crew’s lack of response wasn’t ill-intentioned. We froze,” she said, adding that silence in such situations only encourages harassment. “None of us have to tolerate it,” she asserted.
Opening up about the mental toll the episode took on her, Gouri said,
“This incident affected my mental health. I was almost crying. My body heated up.”
She further stressed that women shouldn’t feel pressured to remain polite when faced with disrespect.
“You don’t have to be the ‘nice girl’—sweet and coy—that society expects us to be,” she said, adding that she has no regrets about speaking up despite the emotional strain.
This incident comes months after Tamil anchor Ambi Aishwarya faced a similarly inappropriate question from a male journalist regarding her sleeveless blouse. Such repeated instances have raised serious questions about professionalism and ethics in entertainment journalism, especially among certain YouTubers and digital reporters.
