Helly Shah Recounts ‘Creepy’ Encounter in Early Career
Television actress Helly Shah, known for her successful journey in the entertainment industry for over a decade, recently opened up about a disturbing incident she faced during the early years of her career. In a candid chat, Helly recalled an uncomfortable and unsettling experience that took place during an audition in her initial days in the industry.
A Disturbing Memory from the Past
Reflecting on her early years, Helly shared that the incident occurred within the first two to three years of her acting journey. Accompanied by her mother, she had gone to a casting office in Film City to audition for a prominent show — though she refrained from disclosing its name. What unfolded next left a lasting impact on her.
“We gave the audition, and soon after, the people there started hinting at financial discussions — right in front of my mom,” she revealed. “It wasn’t outright casting couch, but the whole vibe was extremely creepy. I didn’t even want to talk about it at the time.” – Helly Shah
“I Was Shaking After Leaving That Office”
Helly, who later rose to fame with shows like Ishq Mein Marjawan 2, described feeling anxious and alarmed by the behavior of the casting personnel. “The man didn’t directly ask for money or favors, but the way he was speaking, the suggestions, the tone—it all felt very wrong. If it was just a straightforward agency fee, we would’ve understood. But he was beating around the bush, and his approach was shady,” she added.
She credited her mother’s presence for possibly preventing the situation from escalating further. “Had I been alone, I don’t know what might have happened. The moment we walked out, I was trembling. It was all so unfamiliar and intimidating.”
Battling Doubts and Stereotypes
Helly also opened up about the challenges she and her family faced while she pursued a career in the industry. Coming from a non-filmy background in Ahmedabad, she said it was not easy for her parents to send their daughter into an unpredictable profession at a young age.
“My parents would visit me every weekend just to make sure I was doing okay,” she said with gratitude. “We had no connections, and people often warned us about the dark side of the industry. Even some relatives were critical, but my parents stood by me, and I’ll always cherish their support.”
