Hrithik Roshan has added his voice to the growing list of celebrities reacting to Ranveer Singh’s latest blockbuster Dhurandhar. While the actor praised the film’s cinematic brilliance, he also expressed discomfort with certain political elements woven into its storyline.
Released on December 5, the Aditya Dhar directorial is set against the socio-political backdrop of the late 2000s. The film takes inspiration from real events to craft a fictionalised narrative about India’s covert operations targeting terror networks in Pakistan. Ranveer Singh plays Hamza, a deep-cover Indian operative tasked with infiltrating the gang of dreaded criminal Rehman Dakait. Sharing his thoughts on Instagram, Hrithik wrote, “I love cinema and the artists who surrender completely to a story and let it shake them, spin them and mould them until their truth spills onto the screen. ‘Dhurandhar’ is exactly that. The storytelling is powerful — it’s pure cinema.”
He continued, “I may not agree with its politics, and I do believe filmmakers carry a responsibility as global citizens. Yet, as a student of the craft, I can’t deny how much I enjoyed and learned from this film. Amazing.”
Hrithik wasn’t the only one reacting to the film. Earlier, Akshay Kumar praised Dhurandhar for its intensity and impact, writing, “Watched Dhurandhar and I’m blown away. It’s a gripping tale, and you’ve nailed it @AdityaDharFilms. Hard-hitting stories like this must be told, and I’m glad audiences are giving it all the love.” – Hrithik Roshan Applauds Ranveer Singh Dhurandhar
Actor and Union Minister Smriti Irani also weighed in, connecting the film to real-life tragedies and the lived experiences of many Indian families. In a heartfelt post, she wrote, “If you’ve held the hand of a martyr’s wife, visited Jagti camp in Jammu, seen the deserted Sharika Devi temple in Srinagar, or known families who lived through the Parliament attack or 26/11, nothing in ‘Dhurandhar’ should shock you — it is, after all, just a film.”
Calling the movie a reflection of “lives lived and lost”, she added that those familiar with national security might find it unusual to see R. Madhavan portray a cinematic version of Ajit Doval, yet praised his restrained and powerful performance.
Smriti ended her note with a tribute to India’s real heroes: “To the men and women who’ve laid down their lives or continue serving in pursuit of justice for every Indian — Dhanyawad. Our nation owes you a debt forever.”
Along with Ranveer Singh, Dhurandhar features Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi in key roles. The film’s sequel is already in the works and is slated to hit theatres on March 19 next year.
