Veteran Kannada actor Harish Rai, known for his powerful performances in films like Om and KGF, passed away on Thursday at the age of 55. The actor had been courageously fighting stage 4 thyroid cancer for more than a year and was receiving treatment at the Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology in Bengaluru. Despite undergoing chemotherapy and palliative care, reports indicate that the illness had spread to his stomach and other organs in recent months.
Harish Rai had spoken openly about the immense physical and financial challenges he faced during his treatment. In an earlier interview, he revealed that a single injection cost approximately ₹3.55 lakh, and each treatment cycle required three injections over 63 days — totaling nearly ₹10.5 lakh per cycle. Addressing media reports about financial assistance from KGF star Yash, Rai clarified that although he hadn’t reached out to him during his latest treatment, the two shared a warm and respectful friendship. “Yash has helped me before.
