Akshay Dev Bindra, known for portraying Raunak Zaveri in Zee TV’s Kumkum Bhagya, has finally addressed the speculation around his character’s sudden disappearance from the storyline. Produced by Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms, the show initially positioned Akshay alongside Pranali Rathod as leads, before major narrative shifts pushed his role to the sidelines.
In a candid interview, Akshay shared that the original plan was to build a three-way track between his character Raunak, Pranali’s lead role, and Namik Paul, who later entered as the antagonist. “Pranali and I started as the leads, and then Namik entered as a negative lead. The idea was to explore a triangle even after Pranali and Namik’s characters were married. Eventually, the focus shifted to Pranali and Namik as a pair, and Raunak moved into a revenge mode. Naturally, when a central couple emerges, the track leans more towards them, so I was sidelined a bit. But at the end of the day, the story wasn’t complete without all three of us,” he explained. – Kumkum Bhagya
Despite the shift, Akshay emphasized that he has no hard feelings. He pointed out that the makers never officially informed him about his character’s abrupt conclusion, attributing the situation to the simultaneous launch of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2. “Nobody had the time or clarity then, so things happened without much discussion. I wasn’t given any notice about Raunak’s exit,” he revealed.
Akshay, however, remains positive about the experience. He expressed gratitude for his journey in Kumkum Bhagya and mentioned his strong camaraderie with Namik Paul, noting they’ve been friends long before working on the show. “I am happy with how things went, and I’m grateful for everything,” he concluded.
