Producer Naga Vamsi has finally broken his silence on the disappointing performance of War 2, one of the most talked-about Bollywood releases of the year. Despite being touted as a cinematic spectacle and a key addition to Yash Raj Films’ (YRF) Spy Universe, the film failed to live up to its massive expectations.

Directed by Ayan Mukerji and featuring an ensemble cast including Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, and Kiara Advani, War 2 was envisioned as a high-octane action extravaganza. However, after an impressive opening, the film’s momentum fizzled out amid mixed reviews and lukewarm audience response. – Producer Naga Vamsi Opens Up on War 2 failure

In a candid conversation with director Kalyan Shankar on Sithara Entertainments’ YouTube channel, Naga Vamsi reflected on the experience and admitted that blind trust in YRF’s vision might have been a mistake.

“Mistakes happen — it’s part of the process. Aditya Chopra garu is one of the biggest producers in Indian cinema, and both NTR Anna and I placed our complete trust in YRF. Unfortunately, it misfired,” Vamsi confessed.

He went on to acknowledge that although the missteps came from the production side, his team still bore the consequences.

“The fault wasn’t ours, but we faced the heat (laughs). Thankfully, the trolling wasn’t for a film made by us,” he added with a hint of humor.

Despite boasting a massive ₹400 crore budget, slick visuals, and powerhouse performances, War 2 struggled to maintain its momentum beyond the opening weekend. The film debuted with ₹52 crore on day one but soon saw a sharp decline due to negative word of mouth. Ultimately, it collected ₹236.55 crore net in India and ₹364.35 crore worldwide — well below trade expectations. – Producer Naga Vamsi Opens Up on War 2 failure

For Yash Raj Films, War 2 was the sixth installment in their ambitious Spy Universe, following hits like Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai, and Pathaan. However, the film’s underperformance has cast doubts on the franchise’s future trajectory.

As for Naga Vamsi, he’s already looking ahead. The producer is now focused on promoting his upcoming Telugu release, Mass Jathara, directed by Bhanu Bhogavarapu and starring Ravi Teja, Sreeleela, and Nitish Nirmal. Scheduled for release on October 31, the film marks a fresh beginning for Vamsi, who appears determined to move forward with lessons learned from the War 2 experience.
