Ranveer Singh has found himself embroiled in fresh controversy after a video of him recreating Rishab Shetty’s iconic portrayal of Chavundi Daiva from Kantara Chapter 1 sparked widespread outrage. Just a day after the Dhurandhar actor issued a public apology, a formal complaint was filed against him at Bengaluru’s High Grounds Police Station.

Advocate Files Case Alleging Hurt Sentiments

As reported by NDTV, Bengaluru-based advocate Prashanth Metal lodged the complaint accusing Ranveer of “illegal and offensive actions” that allegedly hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus—especially the Tulu-speaking community of Karnataka. The police have registered the complaint under Sections 299, 302, and 196 of the Bharat Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023.

The complaint also states that Ranveer made disrespectful comments about the Ullalthi Daiva during his speech at the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa on November 28.

Social Media Uproar Over ‘Mocking’ Kantara

Public criticism grew rapidly after clips surfaced showing Ranveer mimicking the revered Chavundi Daiva and referring to it as a “female ghost”. Though director-actor Rishab Shetty was seen smiling in the video, reports later clarified that he had intervened to stop the mimicry.

Given the deep cultural and religious roots of Kantara Chapter 1, Ranveer’s act triggered strong backlash online.

Ranveer Singh Issues Public Apology

Responding to the controversy, Ranveer shared a heartfelt apology on social media, stating:

“My intention was to highlight Rishab’s incredible performance in the film. Actor to actor, I know how much it takes to deliver a scene like that, and he has my utmost admiration. I have always respected all cultures, traditions, and beliefs in our country. If I have hurt anyone’s sentiments, I sincerely apologise.”

So far, Rishab Shetty has chosen not to comment on the incident.
