The incident took place during the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, where Ranveer shared the stage with Kantara director and actor Rishab Shetty. Rishab Shetty Allegedly Asked Ranveer Singh Not to Mimic the Daiva
According to a report by Bangalore Times, this controversy could have been avoided entirely. A source present at the venue revealed that Rishab Shetty had politely requested Ranveer Singh not to imitate the Chavundi Daiva even before the actor went back on stage.
The insider stated,
“Ranveer walked off the stage to greet dignitaries, including Rajinikanth and Rishab. The moment he saw Rishab, he excitedly began mimicking the Daiva. Rishab immediately asked him to stop, very politely.”

However, despite the gentle warning, Ranveer returned to the stage and repeated the same act during his interaction with the audience. The source further added,

In the widely shared clip, Ranveer can be heard saying:
“I watched Kantara Chapter 1 in theatres. Rishab, your performance was outstanding—especially the part when the female ghost (Chavundi Daiva) enters your body.”
He then reenacts the sequence, even asking the audience whether they would like to see him in Kantara 3.
Social media users quickly criticized the actor for making insensitive remarks about culturally sacred beliefs, urging him to educate himself before portraying religious or traditional elements publicly.
