Ranveer Singh Starrer Dhurandhar Becomes Second Highest Opener
Ranveer Singh has roared back to the big screen with Dhurandhar, a gripping espionage thriller directed by Aditya Dhar. Widely praised as Ranveer’s strongest performance in years, the film draws inspiration from several real-life national crises, including the IC-814 Kandahar hijacking and the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. Released amidst immense buzz, the film has finally received its box office verdict — and it’s a strong one.
Dhurandhar Overtakes Saiyaara on Opening Day
Early estimates from Sacnilk indicate that Dhurandhar has delivered a powerhouse opening, pushing Saiyaara down the charts to claim the spot of 2025’s second-biggest opener. With a reported ₹27 crore earned on Day 1 (December 5), the film trails only behind Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna’s Chhaava, which continues to dominate the top position.
Saiyaara has now slipped to third place, falling short by approximately ₹6 crore.
Critical Response: Strong Performances, Mixed Second Half
In its review, Times Now awarded Dhurandhar 3 stars, praising the film’s ambition in revisiting India’s most turbulent security emergencies. The critic noted:
“From the 1999 IC-814 Kandahar hijacking to the 26/11 attacks, Dhurandhar attempts to unravel the forces behind the terror machinery. While the film begins with intensity, the writing falters in the second half. The climax feels more like an extended setup than a final blow, leaving you wanting a sharper finish. A few trims in the edit could have strengthened the narrative.”
However, the review reserved special applause for Ranveer Singh, calling him the undeniable force of the film:
“Even with an ensemble delivering solid performances, Ranveer dominates the screen. After a quieter phase in his career, Dhurandhar is a blazing comeback — a reminder of his unmatched versatility. The sequel is definitely one to watch out for.”
