RCB Officially Up for Sale
In a groundbreaking turn of events, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) franchise has officially been listed for sale. The UK-based parent company of United Spirits Ltd. (USL), Diageo, has initiated the formal process and notified the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) about the decision, marking a major development in Indian cricket’s franchise landscape.
As part of a broader “strategic review,” Diageo aims to finalize the sale of Royal Challengers Sports Pvt. Ltd. (RCSPL)—the company that owns and manages both the men’s Indian Premier League (IPL) and Women’s Premier League (WPL) teams—by March 31, 2026. The disclosure was made under Regulation 30 of the Securities and Exchange Board of India’s Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements (SEBI LODR). – RCB Officially Up for Sale
The official statement from Diageo reads, “USL is commencing a strategic review of its investment in its wholly owned subsidiary, RCSPL. RCSPL’s operations include ownership of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise team that competes in the IPL and WPL tournaments organized annually by the BCCI.”

Praveen Someswar, Managing Director and CEO of United Spirits Ltd., explained that although RCB has been a significant and high-value brand for the company, it no longer fits into their long-term business focus. “RCSPL has been an important and strategic part of our portfolio. However, it falls outside our core alcoholic beverage business. This decision aligns with our continued effort to evaluate and optimize USL’s India portfolio for long-term stakeholder value, while ensuring RCSPL’s growth and best interests remain protected,” Someswar said. – RCB Officially Up for Sale
Reports suggest that several top-tier investors and business groups have expressed interest in acquiring the Bengaluru-based franchise. Among the leading contenders are US-based private equity firms, the JSW Group, the Adani Group, Serum Institute of India’s Adar Poonawalla, and Delhi businessman Ravi Jaipuria of Devyani International.
With the sale process already in motion, anticipation is high across both the cricketing world and the corporate sector. Fans and industry experts alike are eagerly waiting to see which powerhouse will take charge of one of the IPL’s most beloved and commercially successful franchises by March 2026.
