Actor and filmmaker Renuka Shahane has come out in strong support of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, condemning the constant body-shaming and criticism the actress faced for her looks at the Cannes Film Festival. In a recent conversation with Zoom, Renuka expressed disappointment over how people overlook Aishwarya’s long-standing accomplishments and instead focus on her physical appearance.
Reflecting on the harsh comments Aishwarya received post-motherhood, Renuka said, “Shouldn’t we be celebrating her incredible journey and achievements instead of criticizing her body? It takes years of talent, consistency, and grace to maintain such a global presence. Aishwarya has represented India on the world stage for decades, remaining the face of an international luxury brand for so long — something very few can achieve. She also highlighted the growing pressure that women in the entertainment industry face today, especially due to social media scrutiny. “With the internet, the environment has changed completely. This kind of expectation is not only unrealistic but also deeply unfair,” she explained.

Back when Aishwarya was trolled for her post-pregnancy appearance after giving birth to Aaradhya Bachchan on November 16, 2011, her husband Abhishek Bachchan had publicly defended her. In an interview with DNA, he said, “It’s extremely insensitive to make such comments. Yes, she’s a celebrity, but people forget that she’s also a woman and a mother.
