In a recent turn of events, Anupamaa star Rupali Ganguly has taken legal action against her stepdaughter, Esha Verma, filing a defamation case following Esha’s public allegations. Esha, the daughter of Rupali’s husband Ashwin Verma from his previous marriage, has accused Rupali of being “psychotic and abusive,” among other claims. The defamation suit, filed on November 11, 2024, is being handled by prominent lawyer and Bigg Boss 17 participant Sana Raees Khan. Speaking to Times Now/Telly Talk India, Sana shared insights into the case and Rupali’s response.
Sana Raees Khan Speaks Out
Sana Raees Khan confirmed that her legal team has sent a notice to Esha Verma, demanding Rs 50 crore in damages for the defamation. According to Sana, Rupali has been deeply affected by the allegations and is determined to pursue justice. “Yes, we have issued a civil defamation suit and will proceed with the necessary legal measures,” Sana explained. “We’ve requested Rs 50 crore in damages. Prima facie, Esha appears guilty, but it will be a lengthy process.”
Reflecting on Rupali’s emotional state, Sana added, “Rupali has gone through a traumatic ordeal. Esha’s posts have been extremely distressing. Rupali and Esha previously had a cordial relationship, so this came as a complete shock. Initially, Rupali chose to remain silent out of respect, but as rumors spread, including damaging statements about her son, she felt compelled to act. Esha even questioned the legitimacy of Rupali’s 11-year-old son, which crossed a line.”

In her claims to Times Now/Telly Talk India, Esha accused Rupali’s son of being born “illegitimately” and alleged that her father, Ashwin, left her family and married Rupali without notice. Esha stated, “My father left for India, and we only learned of his and Rupali’s marriage from the news. We discovered the birth of their son the same way. Rupali Ganguly’s Legal Stand on Defamation
In a public statement, Sana Raees Khan’s team clarified the motivation behind the legal action. “We issued this defamation notice in response to false statements made by Rupali’s stepdaughter. Rupali is committed to defending her reputation and opposing the use of slanderous tactics for publicity. These allegations have caused considerable emotional strain while damaging her personal and professional standing,” the statement read.
Esha Verma, now 26, is the daughter of Ashwin Verma and his first wife, Sapna Verma, who married in 1997 and divorced in 2008.
