Sagar Parekh Returning to Anupamaa
Actor Sagar Parekh, who became a household name as Samar in Star Plus and Rajan Shahi’s hit show Anupamaa, is once again in the limelight — this time for two major reasons: his much-anticipated comeback to Anupamaa and his remarkable transformation in Zee TV’s Jagriti Ek Nayi Subah (produced by Guruodev Bhalla Productions), where he takes on a darker, negative role. Known for his honesty and adaptability, Sagar opens up about revisiting Anupamaa, exploring his grey side, and the shifting landscape of television storytelling.
Reflecting on his surprise return to Anupamaa, Sagar shares, “When I got the call, I was both thrilled and emotional. It was unexpected, and I honestly didn’t see it coming. But I knew fans would be excited to see Samar again. That character has always been a part of me — returning to the show truly felt like coming home.” – Sagar Parekh Returning to Anupamaa
Currently, Sagar is portraying Akash in Jagriti Ek Nayi Subah, a sharp departure from his previous on-screen image. “I had always wanted to take on a negative role,” he explains. “People have mostly seen me as the charming, positive guy, and I wanted to break that stereotype. I had been manifesting a role like this for a long time, and it finally happened. The audience’s response has been amazing, and that’s very satisfying.”
Talking about his approach to character building, Sagar reveals, “I pay attention to the tiniest details — the tone, the mannerisms, the body language — and then add my own creative touch. That process of creating something fresh every time is what keeps me passionate about acting.” – Sagar Parekh Returning to Anupamaa
The actor also spoke candidly about the challenges faced by Jagriti when its airing time was shifted to a late-night slot. “The timing change definitely affected the viewership. Audiences develop a routine, and when a show moves to a different slot, especially late at night, it disrupts that pattern. People who sleep by 11 won’t stay up for it — they’ll probably catch a repeat, which impacts TRPs. It’s unfortunate but that’s the reality of TV; every show has its own journey,” he admits.
Fortunately, Jagriti Ek Nayi Subah has now been moved to a more favorable 10 PM slot starting October 6, giving viewers easier access to the show. – Sagar Parekh Returning to Anupamaa
Grateful for the unwavering audience support, Sagar says, “Touchwood, every project I’ve done has received immense love. Whether it’s a replacement role, a positive lead, or now a negative character — the audience has always supported me. I just focus on giving my best and keep learning with every experience.”
Comparing his two most distinct characters, Sagar reflects, “Samar was an emotional and slightly naive young man who adored his mother, while Akash is a dangerous, unpredictable person. Switching between such contrasting roles requires both emotional and mental recalibration.”
Looking ahead, Sagar remains open to all kinds of roles. “At this stage, I just want to explore everything that comes my way,” he concludes with determination. “I don’t want to limit myself — I want to experiment, evolve, and keep proving my craft with every project.”
