Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol Unveil Iconic Bronze Statue in London as DDLJ Completes 30 Years
The beloved Bollywood classic Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) has reached its remarkable 30-year milestone, and its lead pair, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, marked the occasion with a grand celebration in London. The duo unveiled a bronze statue immortalizing their unforgettable pose from the film—an honour no Indian movie has ever received before in the UK.
The statue now stands proudly at Leicester Square, joining the prestigious Scenes in the Square trail, a landmark achievement for Indian cinema on international grounds. Captured in a timeless moment from the 1995 blockbuster, the sculpture showcases Raj and Simran in one of their most cherished poses.
Shah Rukh and Kajol graced the ceremony in style. SRK looked sharp in an elegant black suit, while Kajol exuded classic grace in a stunning blue saree. Both posed for photographs as fans gathered to witness this nostalgic moment come alive.
Sharing his excitement on Instagram, Shah Rukh Khan quoted his iconic line from the film, writing, “Bade bade deshon mein aisi chhoti chhoti baatein hoti rehti hain, Senorita!” He added,
“Thrilled to unveil the bronze statue of Raj & Simran at London’s Leicester Square, celebrating 30 years of DDLJ. Honoured that this is the first Indian film to be featured in the Scenes in the Square trail. Thank you to everyone in the UK for making this possible—come visit Raj & Simran whenever you’re in London and continue creating memories with DDLJ.”

A Film That Redefined Romance
Directed by Aditya Chopra, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge remains one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated love stories. Raj and Simran are characters that continue to live in the hearts of film lovers globally. The film also holds the record for being the longest-running movie in Indian theatres, with audiences still visiting Mumbai’s iconic Maratha Mandir to relive its magic.
Reflecting on the legacy of the film, Shah Rukh Khan shared in a statement that the surreal success of DDLJ still amazes him:
“It doesn’t feel like 30 years have passed. It feels like it happened yesterday. I’m forever grateful for the love I’ve received for playing Raj. No one could have predicted the place this film would hold in the hearts of millions.”
Kajol, too, expressed how deeply Simran continues to resonate:
“There’s a piece of DDLJ in every romantic film that followed because history was made, and it never left us. Simran represents countless girls—those who respect tradition but still long for freedom. That’s why she still connects with people. Every time someone says ‘Ja Simran, ja’, it’s a reminder that courage and love can walk hand in hand.”
