The Indian television scene is having a rare moment of nostalgia mixed with reinvention, as legendary shows from different decades collide on screen. The reboot of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi has dethroned Anupamaa from the top TRP spot, and at the heart of this shift stands Smriti Irani—making a triumphant return as the beloved Tulsi Virani.

Her comeback is more than just a ratings win—it’s a financial milestone. Smriti Irani has officially taken the title of highest-paid actress in Indian television history, leaving behind industry heavyweights Rupali Ganguly and Hina Khan. While Rupali reportedly earned ₹3 lakh per episode for Anupamaa, Smriti’s paycheck for Kyunki 2 is believed to be an eye-popping ₹14 lakh per episode—almost five times higher. – Smriti Irani becomes Highest Paid Actress

Hina Khan, as per Times of India, commanded between ₹1.5 to ₹2 lakh per day for her shows, while Shweta Tiwari was once among the top earners with ₹2–2.5 lakh per day. Smriti’s latest deal has now surpassed all of them.

Speaking to CNN News18, Smriti confirmed her remuneration, stating, “For professionals who consistently deliver results, such fees are justified. It sets a benchmark—if one can bring in history, numbers, and revenue, why not?” She also urged fellow actors to negotiate more confidently: “We are professionals like any other. By speaking up, we normalise conversations around fair pay.”

As her grand comeback dominated headlines, so did the inevitable comparisons between Kyunki 2 and Anupamaa. Producer Ektaa Kapoor called these comparisons “unfair” and urged fans and the media not to pit female leads or shows against each other. “Pitting women against women, or content against content, is unnecessary,” she said, while praising Anupamaa and its creator Rajan Shahi for their unmatched success over the past seven years. – Smriti Irani becomes Highest Paid Actress

Rupali Ganguly echoed the sentiment, calling Kyunki a nostalgic classic and pointing out that both shows belong to entirely different eras and storytelling styles. “There’s no basis for comparison,” she remarked.

In the end, while Kyunki and Anupamaa continue to captivate audiences in their own ways, Smriti Irani’s return signals more than just a personal victory. It’s a testament to television’s evolving recognition of legacy, impact, and fair compensation—proving that every woman at the top has carved her place on her own terms.
