The highly anticipated wedding of Indian cricket star Smriti Mandhana and music composer Palash Muchhal has been postponed indefinitely after Smriti’s father, Srinivas Mandhana, developed symptoms suggestive of a heart attack. The ceremony, scheduled for Sunday, November 23, in Sangli, Maharashtra, was called off following the sudden medical emergency.

Emergency Hospitalisation in Sangli

According to Dr. Naman Shah, Director of Sarvhit Hospital, Srinivas Mandhana experienced sharp pain on the left side of his chest around 11:30 a.m., prompting immediate medical attention.

“He was brought in exhibiting classic heart attack symptoms,” Dr. Shah stated. “His cardiac enzymes were mildly elevated. Although his echocardiogram didn’t show fresh abnormalities, he will need continuous ECG monitoring and potentially an angiography if required.”
He added that the stress and exhaustion associated with the wedding preparations may have triggered the collapse. – Smriti Mandhana Palash Muchhal Wedding Put on Hold

Smriti Chooses Family First

Mandhana’s manager, Tuhin Mishra, confirmed that the cricketer refused to proceed with the wedding while her father remained hospitalised.

“His condition worsened shortly after breakfast. We called an ambulance as a precaution. Smriti made it clear—there would be no wedding until her father is completely stable,” Mishra told India Today.
He added that the family is “shocked but hopeful” and that doctors have advised continued observation.

Celebrations Came to an Abrupt Halt

The couple’s wedding festivities had been in full swing for the last two days, featuring vibrant Mehendi, Haldi, and Sangeet ceremonies. Guests were treated to a playful Bride Team vs Groom Team cricket match, adding a personal and sporty touch to the celebrations.

Several stars from the Indian women’s cricket team — including Jemimah Rodrigues, Radha Yadav, Shafali Verma, Arundhati Reddy, Shivali Shinde, and Richa Ghosh — were present to celebrate with the bride-to-be. A clip of Smriti dancing with her teammates during the Haldi ceremony had gone viral just hours before the unfortunate news emerged. – Smriti Mandhana Palash Muchhal Wedding Put on Hold

A Fairy-Tale Engagement

Mandhana and Palash Muchhal announced their engagement earlier this month through a lively Instagram reel set to Lage Raho Munna Bhai’s “Samjho Ho Hi Gaya,” featuring her teammates dancing alongside her.
The next day, Palash shared a heartwarming proposal video from Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium, where India famously lifted the Women’s World Cup. Blindfolded and led to the pitch, Smriti was surprised as Palash went down on one knee amid cheers.

A Remarkable Year for Mandhana

The engagement followed Smriti Mandhana’s outstanding performance in the recent World Cup. She scored 434 runs in nine innings, averaging 54.25 with a strike rate of 99.08, including a century and two fifties. Her composed 45 in the final played a crucial role in India’s title victory.

Wedding to Resume After Recovery

For now, the couple and their families are focusing solely on Srinivas Mandhana’s health. The wedding will be rescheduled once he makes a full recovery.
