Indian women’s cricket vice-captain Smriti Mandhana faced an unexpected and emotional setback on Sunday as her wedding celebrations in Sangli came to an abrupt halt. What was meant to be a joyous afternoon ceremony turned into a tense situation when two medical emergencies struck—first involving her father, and shortly after, her groom-to-be Palash Muchhal.
Smriti’s Father Suffers Angina Symptoms at the Venue
The festivities were disrupted when Smriti’s father, Srinivas Mandhana, complained of severe chest discomfort that resembled symptoms of a heart attack. Panic spread across the venue as an ambulance was immediately called, rushing him to a nearby hospital.
Doctors later confirmed that he experienced angina pectoris, a condition commonly linked to coronary artery disease.
Dr. Naman Shah, neuro physician and chairman at Sarvhit Hospital and Clinical Research Centre, shared:
“He suffered angina around 1:30 pm and was brought to the hospital at 2:15 pm. He is currently in the ICU. We will conduct additional tests on Monday to assess whether an angiography is needed.”
Though the ECG did not show any new complications, Srinivas’ blood pressure remained elevated, prompting doctors to keep him under strict observation. Heart specialist Rohit Thanedar also examined him to monitor further developments.

Fiancé Palash Muchhal Also Hospitalised Briefly
Even as the family tried to absorb the shock, another health concern surfaced. According to an NDTV report, musician Palash Muchhal, Smriti’s fiancé, was also admitted to a private hospital after suffering discomfort due to a viral infection combined with acidity.
Fortunately, his condition was not serious. He received treatment, was discharged the same evening, and returned to the hotel after stabilising.
Wedding to Be Rescheduled After Family Recovers
The ceremony—one of the most eagerly anticipated weddings in Indian sports—now stands postponed indefinitely. Both families have decided to prioritise health and recovery before discussing new dates.
Doctors will reassess Srinivas Mandhana’s condition on Monday, after which the next steps for treatment, including the possibility of angiography, will be decided.
For now, the celebrations remain on pause as the families focus on ensuring both Srinivas and Palash make a full recovery.
