Vartika Singh Reveals How She Transformed Into Her Character for Haq Audition
Vartika Singh, who makes her acting debut in the courtroom drama Haq alongside Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam, is already receiving praise for her performance. The Suparn S Varma directorial hit theatres on November 7, and as the film continues to earn appreciation, Vartika has opened up about how she embodied her character Saira—right from the audition stage to shooting the film.
Vartika on Her Intense Preparation for the Haq Audition
Speaking to Zoom, the former Miss India detailed the determination and hard work that went into securing her first-ever acting role.
“For a film like Haq, you really need to prove your worth,” she said. “When I tested for the part, the audition process was quite extensive. I remember being completely invested from the beginning. In my very first test, I made sure I looked like Saira because I was that serious about the role. Building Saira From Scratch
The script immediately challenged her, pushing her to dive deeper into the character.
“When I read the scenes, something clicked—I knew I had to give everything I had,” Vartika shared. “I even shopped specifically for Saira. I got outfits stitched, curated an entire look, and built the version of Saira I had in my mind. I used to write down her thoughts—what she felt, why she behaved the way she did. I prepared every little detail, and only then did I go in for the audition. For outsiders especially, nothing comes easy. You really have to earn your place.”
Learning Urdu and Nailing the Speech Pattern
To portray Saira authentically, Vartika also trained in Urdu.
“Clear speech was essential,” she said. “Saira is Pakistani, so I imagined a certain refinement in the way she would speak. She’s educated, polished, and from the 1980s—so I had to keep all of that in mind. We had a diction coach who guided me a lot on set. And coming from Lucknow really helped. I’ve grown up hearing people speak in a similar manner.”
